Season 2 Pre-Production Begins!

With the success of Dia De Los Milestone (check out the photos at our Facebook page), we are now in pre-production for season two – beginning with Elephant’s Graveyard by George Brant, directed by Mike Alva.

It’s going to be another busy year for Milestone, but we are continuing to challenge our members and our company with each production planned for 2012. We’ll post on the blog more details about all of the shows you can expect next year, in the meantime, you can visit our website for a preview of what’s to come.

For all of our actors and actresses out there – check out the first audition notice below or download the PDF here. Spread the word to all of your creative friends!

2012 Season Kick-off Party….. and you’re invited!

All of our absence and planning recently has led up to this Saturday’s event in Pasadena. We are excited to end our first year with awards from Pasadena Weekly and a celebration to kick-off our 2012 season. Join us with your family for some live entertainment, food, sneak peeks, discounted season tickets, and more!

Join us November 5th!

We welcome ALL SOULS to a festive night of artistic events:

  • The Magic Castle’s own, Micah Cover, performs death-defying acts of magic and illusion.
  • The Bellwether Ambassadors, presenting their works of sheer magic. (Band members Carson Lehman & Trevor Tallakson were original composers for Milestone’s show, Master Mistress Muse.)
  • Local guitar master Buddy Zapata will take us back in time with his guitarscapes and junkshop blues tunes.
  • The atmospheric piano ballads and ambient dirges of JINSAI.
  • The gigging schmuck compositions of Amanda Johnson & Band.
  • Jumakae, the spoken word guitar hip-hop artist straight from Long Beach.
  • The acoustic harmonies of Mandie and Ruby.
  • Milestoner, David Holguin, takes the stage with his signature flamenco stylings and a special, musical sneak preview from Milestone’s first production of 2012, “Elephants Graveyard.”
  • Celebrate Día de los Muertos and have your face painted by Starry Face Body Arts.
  • Become an anime character with creative illustrations by Mary Huff.

Let the Blogging begin!

Pre-Production: Set Design

Hi! I am Michael Sanchez. I have been selected among a couple other colleagues to write the Milestone blog. During the meeting in which this was decided, the word of the hour was personalization. I am to give you, the reader and potential theatre-goer, a friendly and intimate insight into the inner workings of Milestone, and a more detailed example of what it means to be a company member.

So let’s do this! As pre-production begins on Elephant’s Graveyard, our first production of the 2012 season, I have been chosen to design the set along with Company Member (actor/director) Patrick Connolly. Having both initially began the process with different visions of how to best configure the stage picture and suggest the story’s key elements, we have definitely combined the best of both perspectives to form a cohesive and simple-yet-rich set that allows for almost unlimited possibility and interpretation within the parameters of director Mike Alva’s vision.

Now that we have the picture pretty much finalized in our minds it is time to think about building a scaled down model to present to the rest of the Technical Committee and to unveil at Milestone’s Dia De Los Milestone fundraiser on November 5th

In addition to a sneak peek at the set, we will include a number of rough sketches and notes charting the evolution of our wonderful set design. We hope to not only bring the world of 1916 Erwin, Tennessee to life, but to create a world in which the grandiose wonder of human spectacles and show business come to a sobering head with the grim reality of poor Appalachian living.

Photos will follow of the model once it is constructed, so stay tuned! Both Patrick and I are moonlighting in the off-season with other local theatre companies to stay sharp and keep moving forward with our art, so time is scarce.

‘Til next time…

-MS
